Warwick History
The roots of the congregation can be traced back to 1635. Our first Chapel was located in the grounds of Warwick Castle (roughly where the Orangery is). When the Earl of Warwick wanted to extend his castle he asked the congregation to move and gave the congregation land on High Street where the present Chapel is located.
The present Chapel was build in 1780 but has had a number of extensions and alterations.
Between the two World Wars the Chapel was served by two women Ministers and the Chapel flourished under their leadership.
Over the last 30 years there has been extensive alterations to the interior of the Chapel. The pews were removed, the sloping floor levelled, and we now have a multi-purpose building which suits the needs of the present congregation, but is still sympathetic to the age of the building.
The Chapel is part of the Midland Union of Unitarian congregations and is affiliated to the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches.
